Tobias, the story's hero, is a member of the secret Night Club, a society that exists to protect Prague's citizens by capturing and punishing dangerous criminals until its near destruction at the hand of two mysterious hitmen. Tobias appears to be dead and is buried, but awakens to find himself in a coffin - and with a new set of abilities. He now possesses fangs, can levitate and no longer requires oxygen. Tobias has returned to life as a vampire.
The novel's protagonist only briefly enjoys his newfound persona before a gang of vampire hunters captures him, and soon after he finds himself in Southeast Asia aboard a modern-day pirate ship commanded by an immortal madam and her henchmen. Servitude to the evil villainess, however, is not in Tobias's plan. His future remains in Prague where he must continue his quest to punish the guilty. Although first he must escape.
Kulhanek, an accomplished Czech author, translates the story of Tobias for his English-speaking audience. This engaging action-adventure novel will leave readers craving a sequel to the vampire's adventures - and more blood.
