(MMD Newswire) October 1, 2009 -- Famed Spanish artist, Royo, will be returning to Washington, DC for his exclusive gallery opening at P&C Art galleries. Opening receptions with the artist are, Saturday, October 10, 2009, 6:30 to 9pm at the Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia gallery and October 11, 2009, 1 to 4pm at the Washington, DC gallery. Further information can be found on at www.pcart.com.
Over the past 20 years Royo has had a hugely successful career as a fine artist, with a worldwide following of admirers and collectors. He has had major one-man exhibitions, sold-out shows, in his native Spain, throughout Europe, in the U.K., Japan and in the U.S. Among many other distinctions are his commissions from the Spanish Court to paint portraits of the King and Queen of Spain. More than 60 editions of his hand-pulled serigraph editions have sold out over the past 12 years, contributing to the Master's wide appeal and legendary success.

Now, it appears, that his work is receiving, deservedly, the academic acclaim and acknowledgement along with these commercial successes. He has created throughout his career, along with the beautiful color-saturated paintings which have made him well-known and respected, thematic collections which highlight his depth as an artist, his versatility and his incredible technique. Royo has had museum shows previously, in such diverse venues as The Haggin Museum in California and the Palau de la Musica in Valencia, Spain, with his "Sagittas" collection, a series of works which had a strong narrative content about a Utopian ideal, and a wonderful book and video about that series were created. Another of his thematic series, the boldly colored and sensual "Harem" series was featured in a major, and well-attended public exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland.
Now, his newest creation is a stunning collection of atmospheric and ethereal paintings which he has entitled "Ingravidos". The collection was unveiled in June, 2006 for the first time at the prestigious Museo Almudin in Valencia, Spain to enormous fanfare. The museum, which was built originally in the Fifteenth Century is a Spanish National Monument. Since the opening of the exhibition for Royo, attendance records have been set. The exhibition has created an explosion of interest in Royo in the museum/academic communities. One of the foremost art critics in Spain, Carlos Gonzales y Lopez, a long-time admirer of Royo, immediately endorsed and championed the collection as significant, and helped to arrange a second museum exhibition, which opened in January, 2007, at the esteemed Museo Diocesa in Barcelona, Spain. The show immediately preceding the "Ingravidos" at the Museo Diocesa featured Andy Warhol. The collection "INGRAVIDOS, has been featured at The Coral Springs Museum of Art, Coral Springs, Florida, from September 7th, 2007 ending January, 2008. Again, this collection received the highest esteem from art critics and set record numbers, both monetarily and for attendance, for the museum.
