April 7, 2010 (MMD Newswire) -- "Are you ready for a Summer of a Lifetime?" Thousands of boys and girls will head off to Camp programs like Discovery Club this summer, an experience they will never forget. Camping in most countries has become an integral part of the school curriculum. "The Resident Summer Camp experience provides developmental values for our youth", says directors Samaiyah Aziz and Gloria Odonkor, both teachers at Ghana International School in Accra, Ghana and founders of Discovery Club Summer Camp in Africa program.
Of all the educational possibilities for personal growth in our present day, the Camp experience stands as one of the highest, that is because the Camp setting itself, the interaction of group living, the sharing of activities and the different form of leadership offered by adults who are not parents or teachers.
A Camp experience should be available to all children. The Summer Camping objectives will make one realize that life will be enriched and enhanced for a better preparation into adulthood. The Camping experience offers many opportunities to develop a variety of skills such as sports, crafts, private tutoring, nature studies, develop self confidence and self esteem. Young people can explore new interests, in addition to extending already existing interests.
In addition to the variety of activities offered during the Camp experience, there's the realization and appreciation of a "supreme being" as visualized through nature that can be felt in the open environment of the Camp setting itself.
Development of physical characteristics is a basic aim of Camping. With diversified activities, balanced meals, trained supervision, Camping increases mental and physical vigor. The most important skill of all is the promotion of social skills. The personal adjustments that campers have to make because of the intimacy of close living is a crucial need to be ready for our diverse, changing and demanding society. Camping develops pathways that lead to the understanding of others, such as persons of different races, economic levels, religions, gender and levels of capabilities.
The Discovery Club Summer Camp in Africa program will embark on its first Residential Summer Camp in Ghana starting June 2010. The Camp program will consist of activities that will develop the whole child, from ages 7-17. The Discovery Club offers an option of a 2, 4, or 6 week sessions.
