New Children's Book Follows Stuffed Animals' Journey to Find Mother

Charlie and Mama Kyna by Diana Rumjahn emphasizes the importance of friendship through the journey of a stuffed frog, lion and giraffe

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (MMD Newswire) March 17, 2009 -- Charlie and Mama Kyna by Diana Rumjahn is a colorful children's book, based on Rumjahn's original motion picture "Going Home," that follows a trio of stuffed animals on a lively journey.

The film, which features the same characters, has appeared in numerous film festivals worldwide, including The Times British Film Institute London Film Festival, and was the recipient of the Honorable Mention Award at the Marin County Film Festival in Marin County, Calif. and The Memorable Film Award at the International Panorama of Independent Film and Video Makers in Patras City, Greece. "After all of the positive experience that came with my film, I decided to bring the story to life in words and pictures as well," Rumjahn says. "Hopefully, the book will allow many more children to enjoy Charlie and his friends."

When Charlie the frog accidentally breaks his mother's vase, he decides to run away from home out of fear and embarrassment. He soon discovers Leo the lion and Joe the giraffe, new friends who stay with him in an orange tent outside Mrs. Cupcake's Bakery. When Charlie becomes homesick, all three embark on a search for Charlie's mother.

Charlie and Mama Kyna combines text with original, full-color illustrations depicting each step of the adventure. Intended to emphasize friendship and tolerance, the book is aimed at young readers still learning to make important choices for themselves. In the end, Charlie is welcomed home and reminded that his safety is far more important than a vase.
